* iv.Millennium: "Millennium is a musical juxtaposition of light and dark, perhaps contrasting night and morning against the turning hands of time; one precipice to the other. There is a theatrical bent here that’s not narcissistic but screams, “Look at me!”... The highs and lows are periodically unexpected, rising and falling almost on whim". -Wildy Haskell; 'ReviewYou' Millennium unfolds powerfully with large scale orchestral announcements. The work's extreme episodic quality is due to thematic wondering and low amounts of patience and focus. Themes rarely have a chance to develop before new avenues appear and redirect the work to other notational tangents. However, there is one recurring opening theme which appears sporadically throughout the work as ghostly variants. Although Millennium navigates many directions, it travels smoothly on it's fluidic transitional material. The finale, or last breaths by the string section, ends the melodic trek and breathes a sigh of relief while finally at rest. Millennium's engine delivers power from it's large scale and nontraditional amounts of timpani and string divisions. However, it naturally balances this massive propulsion with delicate passages from lighter instruments such as the vibraphone. Millennium will sufficiently satisfy any professional ensemble's eagerness to be challenged. |
