It's history is woven between contrasting branches of material which depict the life of leadership and the affect on those who choose to follow. A true Monarch divinely appointed should have as much complexity of heart as this work attempts to convey thematically. The mechanics of Monarch focus mainly on the doubling and soloing of the tubas and the detailing quality of the piccolo. The use of traditional percussion scoring was imparted and economically restrained when possible. At times the percussion joined with the staccato punctuations of the bass clarinet for extra rhythmic variety. This work was completed in the late 1990's and has been revised in 2007.
